Native macOS · On-device speech recognition

Press Fn, speak,
and your voice becomes text.

Nodio lives in your menu bar. Hold the Fn key, talk, release — your words land in whatever text field you're focused on. No cloud, no latency, no subscriptions.

Built for speed and privacy.

mic

On-device recognition

Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer runs entirely on your Mac. Audio never leaves your device, and it works without an internet connection.

keyboard

Global hotkey

Hold Fn anywhere on macOS to record, release to transcribe. No app switching.

language

Built for your accent

Switch between Indian, US, British, and Australian English models from the menu bar — pick the one that actually understands you.

content_paste

Smart text delivery

Nodio injects text directly into the focused input field. If that fails, it falls back to clipboard, so nothing you said is ever lost.

visibility

Floating HUD

A compact, always-on-top pill with live waveform bars shows you Nodio is listening. No windows, no distractions — just a visual pulse.

power_settings_new

Launch at login

Turn it on once in the menu bar and Nodio is ready the moment you log in.

Three steps. That's it.

1

Hold Fn to record

The floating pill appears with a live waveform — Nodio is listening.

2

Release to transcribe

Nodio cleans up the audio, then runs on-device speech recognition — no internet required.

3

Text lands where you are

Injected at your cursor. No field focused? It copies to your clipboard instead.

Up and running in under a minute.

1

Download the DMG

Grab the latest Nodio.dmg from the GitHub release. No App Store, no account.

Download for Mac arrow_forward
2

Open the DMG and drag Nodio to Applications

Double-click Nodio.dmg, then drag the Nodio icon into the Applications folder shown in the window.

3

Open Nodio from Applications

Since Nodio isn't notarized through the App Store, macOS Gatekeeper will flag it the first time. What you see depends on your macOS version:

Dialog offers "Open"

Right‑click (or Control‑click) the app → Open → confirm Open in the dialog. You only need to do this once.

Dialog only offers "Move to Trash"

Recent macOS versions (Sequoia and later) removed the right‑click bypass for unnotarized apps — the only button is Move to Trash. Don't click it. Instead, open Terminal and run:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Nodio.app

This clears the quarantine flag macOS attaches to files downloaded from the internet. Then open Nodio from Applications as normal — no more warning.

4

Grant three permissions

Nodio asks for these the first time you use each feature. All three are required — here's why:

mic

Microphone

Lets Nodio capture your voice while you hold Fn. Audio is processed and discarded — never stored or uploaded.

record_voice_over

Speech Recognition

Enables Apple's on-device SFSpeechRecognizer to turn your audio into text, entirely on your Mac.

accessibility_new

Accessibility

Lets Nodio type the transcribed text into whatever field you're focused on, and lets the Fn key work as a global hotkey.

Grant them anytime via System Settings → Privacy & Security, or use Check Permissions… in the Nodio menu bar icon to jump straight there.

5

Hold Fn and start talking

That's it — Nodio lives quietly in your menu bar from here on. Optionally enable Launch at Login from the Nodio menu so it's always ready.

shield

Your voice stays on your Mac.

Nodio uses Apple's native on-device speech recognition. Audio is processed locally, enhanced locally, and discarded after transcription. No servers, no telemetry, no accounts.
